Philippians Intro & 1:1-2
Friday Sep 06, 2019
Friday Sep 06, 2019
We begin a new series on Philippians. This letter from the Apostle Paul to the church in Philippi was written during Paul's imprisonment in Rome. It is one of the few letters that Paul wrote primarily out of pure love for this church.
This church was the only church that Paul established that supported him throughout his ministry. They supported him monetarily, emotionally, and prayerfully.

Judges 20

it's interesting to note that the Levite's story to the collective armies of Israel was certainly NOT the story from chapter nineteen.
Of additional note is that Israel didn't ask God if they should go to was with the tribe of Benjamin. They only asked who should go up first. It isn't until there have been two failed attempts to defeat their brother tribe that they got serious about seeking God's will in this civil war.

Judges 21
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
In this podcast Israel "fixes" their problems by being guilty of the very sin they punished Benjamin for in the civil war. Not only do they kill an entire town to provide wive for the surviving Benjamites. When they end up with 200 fewer virgins than necessary they end up condoning kidnapping of single women.
There are issues with how Cannanized Isreal is and how they are more concerned about the letter of the law rather than the spirit of the law.

Judges 19 part 2

Tuesday Jul 30, 2019
In the first closing Judges 17-18, we explored the Caanitzation of the spiritual nature of Israel. Chapters 19-21 is the second closing of Judges. In this story, virtually everyone in the story is unnamed representing groups of people.
While this chapter is superficially about hospitality and some seem to think it is an attack on patriarchal society and the mistreatment of women, in reality, it is about the Caanization of Israel. One should never take a single chapter out of the over-arching storyline of Judges.
The full Canonization of Israel is found in the condoning and committing of the following sins - homosexuality, adultery, rape, and murder. An interesting fact is that all four of these sins are capital offenses in the Torah and Israel is guilty of all of them.

Judges 18

have you ever thought that obeying God's will was too hard? The Tribe of Dan thought so. They failed to occupy the land that God gave them. So they decided to relocate their tribe to the northern borders of Israel.
In the process of relocating they appropriate Micah's idols and steal his priest. The Tribe of Dan becomes the first tribe to officially become idolatrous.

In this podcast we see a grown son, Micah returning the money he stole from his mother after she places a curse on the person who stole her money. Upon its return, she promises to give the returned funds to Jehovah.
After her promise she has an artist make an idol for her son. We look at why would an Israelite make an idol to worship Jehovah.
Micah has priestly clothing made up and eventually hires a Levite to serve as his house priest. We discuss why a Levite would take a position that is clearly forbidden in the Torah.

Judges 16:23-31 and Introduction to the last 5 chapters of Judges

We look at Sampson's death and see that to the very end of his life Sampson continued to be self-centered. His prayer at the end of his life was for vengeance on the Philistines for their enslavement of him. He isn't interested in the welfare of his people or God's glory.
We also introduce the last five chapters of Judges. In these remaining lessons, the writer of Judgers turns from the deliverers to the people of Israel and their succumbing to the complete Caanization of God's people.

Sampson continues to walk a fine line coming closer and closer to revealing the true nature of his relationship with God and the reason for his strength. With each successive lie, Deliah nags Sampson more until he finally reveals the secret of his strength.
Deliah earns her 5500 shekels of silver and Sampson is captured by the Philistines. They gouge out his eyes (the source of many of his temptations - the lust of the eyes). The lords of the Philistines send him back to Gaza where he had wreaked havoc on the local economy and set him to grind grain.
