Pride has been called the basis of all sins. While it is one of three basic sins (lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life) it certainly was the sin that caused Abimelech to kill his 69 brothers and later the citizens two cities were killed before he was killed.
I'm reminded that Longfellow wrote “Though the mills of God grind slowly, yet they grind exceeding small”
God said Vengeance is mine I will repay!

After following the God-given victory over the Medians Gideon goes off on a mission of vengeance. Not only does he pursue two kings because they killed his brothers, but he also turns on his own people when they refuse to help.
We need to learn to be as cautious after the battle as we were going into the battle. Today there are millions of unexploded landmines still in the ground after many of the wars around the world. It is cheaper to leave the unexploded mines in the f=ground than remove them. The problem is that these landmines continue to be active for years just waiting for someone to step on them and destroy lives long after the war is over.
After Gideon refused to be crowned King he and his family lived like kings. Often we lose the victory after winning the war.

We look at the difference between how the Holy Spirit operates in the Old Testament versus how He operates in the New Testament. Being clothed in the Spirit seems similar to the gifts of the Spirit in the New Testament.
Additionally, we discuss why God chooses to sift the soldiers to cull their numbers from 32,000 down to 10,000 and eventually down to 300 men. Could it be that God wanted to make sure that Isreal couldn't brag about how they defeated the Midianites in their own strength and power? God doesn't like to share His glory!

Judges 6:12-36

We continue to look at how God calls Gideon to be a deliverer. Gideon is an odd choice. He seems to be a fearful man and someone filled with doubt. Again God chooses an unlikely hero. It takes constant reassurances from God and His message before Gideon has enough faith to trust.
What will it take for us to trust God? Interestingly enough God doesn't chastise Gideon for his doubt. He simply continues to provide reassurance as Gideon wrestles with his lack of faith.
Aren't you glad that God doesn't give up on us? He continues to assure us as we struggle to learn to Trust God and His plan for our life.
Thank you, Lord, for not losing patience with my doubt and fears!
